Checklist for After the Accident:
1. Follow
up with your doctor, if necessary.
2. Telephone your insurance company claims department.
3. Take photographs of the damage to your car and of your injuries.
4. Contact an attorney who is experienced in handling personal injury
matters. Most lawyers handle personal injury claims on a contingency
basis, which means that there are no legal fees until your case settles.
5. Assuming your car is damaged, remove personal items from the vehicle.
6. Review your insurance policy regarding deductible and rental
coverage.
7. Contact the other driver’s insurance company and make note of the
adjuster’s name and claim number.
8. Make an appointment for an appraisal of your vehicle.
9. If your car is not drivable, request a rental car from the adverse
driver’s insurance company.
10. Choose a repair shop to fix the damage.
11. If your car is totaled, determine the fair market value. (See

12. Locate your title or lien paperwork, because you will need to sign
it over to the insurance company.
13. Do not sign any releases that waive your rights for a bodily injury
claim.
